Napa County officials are declining to answer questions about why they filed a federal lawsuit against themselves last Tuesday.
“Enough is enough,” one official told The Crush’s anonymous tip line. “We’ve sued every family-run winery into the ground. The only opponent left is… us.”
The case, brought by three county officials, alleges “overregulation of ongoing lawsuits.” “We think we’ve got a case wrapped up, then—boom—another citation, another death threat, and it all starts over,” complained the caller.
A Yountville attorney unaffiliated with the case noted: “If the County keeps suing itself, my clients might actually get away with breaking the law. Suffice it to say, we’re hopeful the County’s lawsuit against itself drags on.”
